The Abacos Overview

The Abacos, with a population of around 10,000 are generally known as the sailing capital of The Bahamas.  These calm and protected waters are very popular with yachting and fishing enthusiasts where you’ll find some of the best facilities in The Bahamas.  Every year the Abacos host a number of important regattas and game fish tournaments.  Although there are around 100 islands and Cays in The Abacos, only around 10% are inhabited.

There  are two main areas, Little Abaco Island and Great Abaco Island and four main cays, Green Turtle, Great Guana, Man-of-War and Elbow.  All these cays offer superb boating facilities, charming settlements and small resorts.

On Great Abaco you’ll find beautiful inland lakes, pine forests, the largest marina in The Bahamas and the third largest community, Marsh Harbour with its excellent medical clinics, hotels, shops, car & boat rental and numerous restaurants.

Little Abaco is much more laid back, farming and fishing taking the place of tourism as the main industry however it does support some wonderful beaches to relax on.

The main access to The Abacos is by air, either from Nassau or Miami.  Mail Boat Ferry services also run from Nassau and there are regular ferry services to the cays
from Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay.

To sum up, whether your looking to go snorkeling, diving, sailing, boating, deep sea fishing, golfing, walking or just plain relaxing, its all available on The Abacos.
