LONG ISLAND OVERVIEW

This 80 mile long ‘Out Island’ has a population of over 5,500, all of whom seem really friendly. Overseas investment in land, condos and villas has been steadily increasing over the past four years.  There are three main areas of activity, Clarence Town, Stella Maris and The Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort.

CHECK OUT THE OUTSTANDING INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY AT PORT St GEORGE, ADJACENT TO THE STELLA MARIS RESORT.  Click Property for Sale to find out more!

Outside of these you’ll find small settlements, farming towns, forests, mangrove swamps and beautiful white sandy beaches, especially on the protected west coast.

Long Island’s main airport is at Deadman’s Cay, about half way up the island.  This is the islands largest settlement.  Driving for about 20 minutes south you’ll find Clarence Town, a charming small town, home to the Flying Fish Marina, The Winter Haven Resort and Rowdy Boys bar and restaurant and the Gems at Paradise Resort.  Not far away is Deans Blue Hole, reputed to be the deepest Blue Hole in the world at 660 feet.

From Deadman’s Cay going north, just past Salt Pond you find a turning left to Indian Hole Point.  Stop for some refreshments at the charming beach restaurant & bar ‘Parrots of The Caribbean’.  From here it’s about a half an hour’s drive to the Stella Maris Resort, and a further 10 minutes will take you to Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort.  Both these resorts offer excellent accommodation and food.

There are several flights a week by Bahamasair to Long Island, The Stella Maris Resort has it’s own air services company and there’s also a ferry service once a week from Nassau on a Tuesday to Clarence Town, or, also leaving Tuesday is another ferry stopping at Salt Pond, Deadman’s Cay and Seymours.
